Cvent announced the release of Top 25 Meeting Destinations in Europe on 26 July 2018. This list was composed after evaluating the business generated by 5,000+ European cities through Cvent Supplier Network (CSN) from January 2017 through December 2017. The set of qualifying criteria includes unique RFPs received, total room nights, awarded RFPs, awarded room nights, a percentage of qualified meeting venues and number of CSN profile views.
Last year, a combined list of top 25 meeting destinations in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) was released. The 2018 standalone list brings out the growth and popularity of Europe as a MICE destination. The winner of the 2018 Europe list is quite a familiar name and has emerged as a four-times consecutive winner of the Cvent lists – London.
“London is a world-class destination for meetings and events. With fantastic infrastructure, global connections and a variety of hotel rooms and state of the art venues, it’s no surprise to see we have retained the top spot in Europe. We continue to attract leading global events and conferences to the city and we look forward to showing the international MICE community the very best of London’s offering,” quotes Tracy Halliwell, Director of Conventions and Events at London Convention Bureau.
One of the most accessible cities in the world, London offers everything that a MICE planner could ask for. The city features 2,109,000 square meters of meeting space across myriad meeting venues. The largest convention centre in London offers 85 meeting rooms and 87,328 square metres of column-free space. This iconic city has 1,012 hotels with 109,357 sleeping rooms, which can easily accommodate events of all sizes.
Barcelona acquired second place on the 2018 list, followed by Berlin (#3) and Amsterdam (#4). Madrid vaulted to #5, jumping one spot up from the previous year (the EMEA list). The top ten comprises Paris (#6), Frankfurt (#7), Rome (#8), Munich (#9) and Lisbon (#10).
The Hague is the highest climber on the list, going 13 places up to secure a place at #15. It is also the second Netherlands city added for the first time in the list. Historically, Amsterdam has been the only Netherlands city to be featured.
Germany has the highest number of cities in the top 25, acquiring six places on this year’s list. The cities are Berlin (#3), Frankfurt (#7), Munich (#9), Hamburg (#23), Hannover (#24) and Düsseldorf (#25).
