Atlantis, Paradise Island, the lush, oceanside resort in the Bahamas, recently embarked on a new chapter tied to a meaningful connection with the ocean, Bahamian culture, and the spirit of the resort’s 7,300-plus employees. The resort’s new programming connects guests to the rich history, art, people, food, and festivities of the Bahamas. Atlantis is fully committed to nurturing the local creative and entrepreneurial community and immersing guests in the most authentic experiences.

A Refreshed and Refined Stay

Atlantis features five distinct properties to stay, from the iconic The Royal to The Beach and The Coral to the newly built luxury properties, The Cove and The Reef. The Coral has been newly renovated and reopened in 2018 as a fully redesigned escape, while The Cove recently celebrated a series of new design collaborations, restaurants, and guest experiences, each paying homage to Bahamian culture.

Marine Conservation

The ocean-themed resort is built around Aquaventure, an innovative, 141-acre waterscape of thrilling slides and river rides, pools, and white-sand beaches. It features one of the largest open-air marine habitats in the world, with over 50,000 marine animals from 250 species. In addition to various habitats across the property, groups are able to visit Dolphin Cay, a 14-acre marine mammal habitat and education center, whose first residents were rescue dolphins and sea lions from Hurricane Katrina. A portion of the cost of each of the on-property marine interactions goes back to The Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, the resort’s nonprofit organization dedicated to saving sea species and their extraordinary habitats.

Meetings and Events

With the largest conference center in the Caribbean, Atlantis boasts 200,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, highlighted by the 50,000-square-feet Imperial Ballroom and 25,000-square-feet Grand Ballroom. The 60on-property meeting rooms allow Atlantis to accommodate groups of 15 to 4,000, and more than 20 distinct outdoor venues totaling 300,000 square feet entertain parties of up to 5,000. Group events and activities on the property can be customized to not only create “give back” experiences, but also ensure that the beauty of the surrounding ocean and Bahamian environment are part of the authentic island journey. For example, groups can participate in sea turtle releases or take part in private, behind-the-scenes tours and training sessions at Dolphin Cay, where attendees can assist the expert behaviorists in maintaining optimal physical health and mental well-being for the animals. Additionally, a visit can be set up for attendees to go to the resort’s Coral Reef Nursery. Atlantis is committed to rehabilitating damaged coral reefs by growing small coral fragments (right on the property) to repopulate reefs that have been eliminated through disease, hurricanes, or bleaching.

Local Culinary Experiences

Five new outposts of beloved Bahamian restaurants have opened, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy authentic flavors inside the resort while also providing local business owners with a platform to share the various tastes, culture, and spirit of the country with meeting attendees. They include Sip Sip from Harbour Island, located at The Cove; Sun & Ice, an ice cream parlor, in the lobby of The Coral; and McKenzie's Conch Shack, Frankie Gone Bananas, and the Pirate Republic Brewery Tap Room in the Marina Village.  All offer fresh ingredients from local farmers and fishermen. Lastly, in May 2018, Fish, helmed by renowned master chef José Andrés, opened at The Cove at Atlantis.

What’s Coming

Atlantis plans to announce more renovations and property upgrades in the coming months, including news of redesigned rooms and suites at The Reef and The Royal.
