Hotel Tivoli Maputo

5 minutes’ walking distance from the Hotel, you will find the emblematic Fortress of Maputo, located on 25th of June Square, one of Maputo's best preserved monuments. Known as Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Conceição is a replica that was built to be temporary in 1940 by the centenary of Independence and Restoration. However, it was restored according to the original design. Until shortly after Independence, this fort was a historical-military museum. It is currently used for cultural events and organization of exhibitions belonging to Eduardo Mondlane University. However, inside you can still see some pieces that remain of its historical-military past, specifically the statues of Mouzinho de Albuquerque and António Enes. On the right side and placed on the walls, you can see two panels. One represents the Gugunhana prison and the other a military charge against the Gaza empire. In the centre, among several cannons, you can admire a replica of the patterns used by Vasco da Gama in his discoveries and expeditions.

The Centro Cultural Franco Moçambicano is located just a 10 minute walk from the Tivoli Maputo Hotel, next to the Tunduro Garden.The space was inaugurated on July 13th 1995 by the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Pascal Mocumbi, and the French ambassador to Mozambique, Didier Destremeau. After 2 years of rehabilitation and construction work, it is an immense space (more than 6,000 m2) devoted essentially to the culture and intellectual life that opened up for the Mozambicans. Located in the heart of the historical district of Maputo, CCFM was built on the ruins of an old colonial hotel built in 1896. With its large terraces and iron columns, the former Club Hotel is recognized as one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Apart from a restaurant, where you can taste some vegetarian dishes as well as some Mozambican dishes, there are also several exhibition spaces and an auditorium where concerts and film projections are organized. Every month the center publishes their cultural agenda on social networks and during the year they organize frank Mozambican cinema cycles with various themes.

About 5 minutes’ walking distance from the Hotel, you can visit the Tunduru Garden which is a landscaped space in the recently recovered city centre of Maputo. This is a very pleasant space during the day where you enjoy the shade on the hottest days and appreciate the richness and variety of flora in this garden.
