Marstrand is 40 minutes by car from Göteborg, right where the Skagerrak meets the Kattegatt. Marstrand is possibly the most fascinating island in the county of Bohuslän. It quickly developed into a base for fishermen when the herring fishery brought a period of great prosperity. Later, in the days of national romanticism, Oscar II transformed the island into the summer paradise it still is today.
