Piazza dei Signori

Historical landmark
Located just a few steps from Romeo’s and Juliet’s House, Stone Bridge, and New Bridge. The most fascinating buildings that alternate along its sides are Palazzo della Ragione, with its privileged access to the Old Market, Palazzo del Podestà, Loggia del Consiglio, Palazzo di Cansignorio and the Church of Santa Maria Antica, where the remains of the most famous representatives of the Della Scala family lie (Mastino II della Scala, Cansignorio and Cangrande I della Scala).

Castel San Pietro

Historical landmark
Castel San Pietro is a fortified construction built on the homonymous hill, overlooking the city of Verona. Due to its privileged position, from the Roman era to the Middle Ages, from the Visconti domination to the settlement of the Serenissima, from the attacks in the Napoleonic era up to the conversion into barracks to house the Austrian troops, ordered by Field Marshal Radetzky in the second half of the XIX century, it has often been objected to skirmishes for the control of the area. Now a public park, the area is a popular destination for tourists and citizens, who climb the hill to enjoy the panoramic view of the city.

Piazza delle Erbe

Historical landmark
The most appreciated feature of Piazza delle Erbe is the monuments, palaces, and patrician houses that embellish its perimeter like jewels on a crown. Palazzo del Comune, Casa dei Giudici, the houses of the Mazzanti family and Torre dei Lamberti on the north side, the beautiful Baroque-style Palazzo Maffei, flanked by the Gardello tower, featuring the first bell clock of the city, on the west side, Casa dei Mercanti on the south side, are just some of the most appreciated. The constructions facing the north-western side of the square, instead, have been built in more recent times over the area hosting the ancient Capitol and overlooking the Roman Forum.

Palazzo della Gran Guardia

Historical landmark
Located in Piazza Bra, beyond the gardens that separate it from the Arena, Palazzo della Gran Guardia is an architectural complex with austere lines and imposing dimensions, often chosen to host conferences, meetings, exhibitions and events. The two-story building façade is marked by the imposing arched colonnade and the openings of the large rectangular windows that guarantee an eye-catching effect on the visitors. The medieval details, restored and preserved in their originality, are also fascinating and serve as a reference to the other architectures in the city (the noble palaces Guastaverza and Bevilacqua, Palazzo Barbieri, the nearby Arena).

Romeo & Juliet

Recreation
If you come to Verona, we advise you to plan a pilgrimage to the most iconic places of “Romeo and Juliet’s” myth: start from the two lover’s houses and then take the time to visit Juliet’s tomb (that, though not containing her mortal remains, doesn’t cease to exert its charm on visitors of every age and nationality), you won’t regret it! Romeo’s House is located near the Arche Scaligere (a Gothic funerary monument that houses the mortal remains of the most illustrious exponents of the Della Scala family). Since is now privately owned, its interiors remain closed to the public, but this charming medieval building’s exteriors are still worth a look.

Museo di Castelvecchio

Museum
If you are an estimator of the Italian and European Medieval, Renaissance or Gothic-Baroque architecture, art and sculpture, we highly recommend a visit to Castelvecchio Museum. The splendid setting of the Scaliger fortress houses an exhibition that occupies about thirty rooms with works dating from the Middle Ages to the second half of the eighteenth century: sculptures, paintings, ancient weapons, pottery, miniatures, jewelry and various other crafts.

Arena di Verona

Theater
Dating from the 1st century AD, the Arena of Verona represents one of the most exceptional examples in the world of Roman architecture. Thanks to the meticulous conservative restorations it has been subject to since the 16th century, this beautiful roman amphitheater has been preserved in (almost) its complete original form until today. Hosting since 1913, the date of the first representation, the renowned Opera Festival, and although the external appearance has changed considerably over time, the Arena still maintains its status and functions of symbol and privileged meeting point in the city.
