The unique charm of Rudratheertha, the sacred tank of the temple where it is believed that once Lord Siva performed ‘Tapas’. According to the advice of Siva, Brihaspathy (the Teacher of Devas) and Vayu (the God of Wind) performed the installation of the idol here. The temple of Lord Siva and Goddess Durga are also present here. So, differently from the other great temples in India, the greatness of which owe to their antiquity, history or the rich and Devine sculptures in them, Guruvayoor owes its Mahathmya to the divinity of the locality. As a rule pilgrims visit holy places at particular seasons and special occasions. But Guruvayoor is an exception.
