Reid Park Zoo’s mission is “to encourage commitment to the conservation of biological diversity and to provide educational and fun experiences for visitors of all ages.” The Zoo, founded in 1965 with a collection of birds, prairie dogs, farm animals, and a few squirrel monkeys, has expanded to a 24-acre campus that houses hundreds of animals in naturalistic exhibits and annually hosts over 600,000 visitors. Catalina State Park sits at the base of the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains. The park is a haven for desert plants and wildlife and nearly 5,000 saguaros. The cave is a crystal-filled, dry cave that was opened to the public in the 1930's. Visitors can take a tour, browse in the historical museum, relax in the wooded picnic areas, hike, sluice for gemstones and enjoy the Southwestern gift shop.
