Pearl District

Shopping

Once known as the Industrial Triangle—filled with railroad yards and timeworn turn-of-the-century warehouses—the Pearl District today is an award-winning, internationally recognized leader in urban renewal, culture and “LEED” certified buildings. As one of the most desired neighborhoods in the country to call your home, work space, or playground, the Pearl is clear validation that high-quality, inner-city communities can revive from the ashes of urban decay. Often considered the “gold standard” of live, work and play mixed-use space, the Pearl District is proof that inner-city living at its finest can rise from the ashes of urban decay.

The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

Teater

As one of the last surviving theater venues on Broadway, the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall keeps the tradition of hosting prolific performances alive in this historic part of Portland. The building that now houses what locals lovingly call “The Schnitz” was originally the Portland Public Theatre, built in 1928. The Italian Rococo Revival architecture was said to be the national showcase of renowned Chicago theatre architects Rapp & Rapp, and has been beautifully restored through a generous donation from Portlanders Arlene and Harold Schnitzer. The Concert Hall plays host to a variety of presentations including classical, jazz, pop, rock, folk and gospel music, dance, theatre, travel films, conferences, and weddings.
