Founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller in 1956, the legendary resort offers seven private beaches and 166 secluded lodgings on the island of St. John. Its 170 - acre peninsula forms part of Virgin Islands National Park, a 5,000-acre nature preserve that covers more than half the island's 19 square miles.
