Octant Lousã

Included in the Sra da Piedade complex, Arouce Castle belongs to one of the first defensive lines created to control the southern accesses to Coimbra in the second half of the 11th century. This facility - which is classified as a National Monument - is part of the Mondego Castles and Walls Network.

The waters of the River Ceira, in the town of Casal de Ermio, six kilometres from Lousã, welcome holidaymakers and other visitors on their walks through the municipality's Schist Villages. The beach, set in the rural landscape, is ideal for families with children, both because it is supervised and because there is a swimming pool for the little ones. An area with a diving board, picnic area, showers and a bar with a terrace are some of the facilities on offer. A wooden walkway over the river connects to the lawn area. The waters are also used for pedal boats and canoes, which can be rented on site. It has the "Accessible Beach - Beach for Everyone!" Flag from the National Institute for Rehabilitation, Portuguese Environment Agency and Tourism of Portugal and provides an amphibious chair.

This is the Schist Village in the Serra da Lousã that has long given the area its greatest visibility and charisma. For its size and layout, but also for the many details of the restoration of its houses. And also because of the way the village seduces us with its mouth. Discovering this village means diving into the magical world of the Serra da Lousã and immersing yourself in lush vegetation where deer, roe deer, wild boar and many other species lurk. Nature reigns here, a sensitive nature that demands respect. But it also offers countless possibilities for leisure and active sports. Here you can feel the pulse of the earth and its communion with man when you see the villages in the distance. They seem to have sprung from the schist soil, naturally, just like the trees.

The Ribeira das Quelhas, with its magnificent waterfalls and lagoons, is one of the greatest natural wonders of the Serra da Lousã. The Ribeira das Quelhas Walkways are located near the village of Coentral Grande, in the municipality of Castanheira de Pêra, and follow the right bank of the Ribeira das Quelhas for approximately 1.2km (just under 2.5km round trip).

A building of undeniable beauty, it is much sought after by visitors to Lousã. Located in the historic centre of the town, it replaced the more modest church that preceded it, being built in modern and attractive lines. Its spacious interior, heavily decorated with religious motifs, has its apogee in the elaborately carved gilded altar. Its patron saint is St. Silvestre, and although it dates back to 1882, it was only completed in 1921, with the construction of the Bell Tower.
