Medieval City of Rhodes

Historical landmark
4 km away
A World Heritage Monument by UNESCO, the Medieval Town of Rhodes has a unique architectural history as it houses many ancient ruins, byzantine churches, gothic basilicas, mosques and synagogues. It is the largest inhabited medieval city in Europe, with dozens of shops, bars and restaurants. The Medieval Moat, circling the walls, is excellent for a nice afternoon walk.

Lindos

Historical landmark
45 km away
One of the most photographed sites in the Aegean and possibly the most famous landmark of Rhodes, Lindos is both a historically interesting site and a top touristic destination. Its Acropolis is a unique amalgam of history as it includes ancient, byzantine and medieval buildings combined with a unique view over the Mediterranean Sea. The picturesque village, with its small alleys, white houses and crystal clear beaches, are full of surprises.

Mandraki

Shopping
4 km away
The heart of the historical center of the modern city of Rhodes, Mandraki is a unique collection of Belle-epoque and medieval buildings. The Mandraki Marina, the Three Windmills, the Nea Agora building and the Fort of Saint Nicholas are some of the historical sites to be found here. They all offer a unique view of the Palace of the Grand Magister and the surrounding parks.

Ancient City of Kamiros

Historical landmark
25 km away
Kamiros, together with Lindos and Ialyssos, was one of the three city-states which, according to Homer, were founded by the Dorians who settled in Rhodes. Kamiros was one of the three great Doric cities of the island, which were united with Ialyssos and Lindos in the 5th century BC to create the powerful city-state of Rhodes.

Mandraki Marina

Business district
5 km away
Provisioning There are two supermarkets within the harbour that are open 7 days a week from 07.30 to 21.00 during the summer. There you will find almost anything you wish. Provisioning lists are accepted in Rhodes too. You can do more shopping in the market square nearby. Restaurants There are various cafes, taverns and restaurants within walking distance of the ancient town and market square. A couple of the best taverns / Greek traditional restaurants in the island you will find in remote villages about 7-16 km SW of the town. Our staff can call a taxi for you and advise you how to locate them. The Weather From May to October, the prevailing wind in this area blows from the W or NW at Force 4-6B. If your bearing is towards Kos island, then after you pass the Turkish cape West of Symi island, the winds are usually calmer and blow from N (or NE sometimes). The National Observatory of Athens issues a Sailing forcast, published in their website. Also National Observatory's site www.forecast.gr provides a interactive wind map (in Greek) and a detailed forcast for the nearby area Hazards Beware of the rocks and shallow waters on the north side of the port entrance. Also: drop as much chain as you have in your chain locker, so that your boat’s anchor will not stuck to the heavy-big-chain of the mooring-lines which is submerged parallel to the dock at a distance of 30m (90 feet). Waters at this point are 20 m deep and you will -most probably- need a diver to free your anchor. Other names for Rhodes island: Rhodos, Rodos, Rodes, Rodi

Chalki island

60 km away
The perfect choice for a laid-back holiday West of popular Rhodes Island lies a chain of islets, the biggest of them being Chalki. This is a place we’d like to recommend to you if you’re looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday in typical Aegean Sea island surroundings. Chalki is an island with a low profile and an ancient history. It’s been inhabited since the prehistoric times and it got its name from the copper mines (Chalkos is Greek for copper) that were in use on the island in antiquity. The buildings bear the signs of prosperity the island knew during the second half of the 19th c., as trade growth and the sponge harvesting business brought wealth to the locals. After 1912, the Italians possessed the Dodecanese group of islands (Chalki included) until 1948 when they became part of the Greek State.
