The Notary’s story is extraordinary. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building dates back to 1926. It was designed by prolific architect Philip Johnson (who also designed the original Philadelphia Convention Hall) in the Classical Revival Style. For decades, the City Hall Annex building was where a Notary's stamp was given to signify the start of a marriage, a business, or a new journey. Today, the same building stands with a different service, but a similar mission: to create notable moments for its visitors. After a $75 million restoration, The Notary Hotel emerged, recapturing the grandeur of its 1920s origins and placing it among premier downtown Philadelphia hotels. Unlike other downtown Philadelphia hotels, our 18-story, 499-room hotel is a compelling blend of historic architecture and modern luxury. Our guests are greeted with a custom seal, the signature tool of a notary, that concierges will stamp onto guests’ card sleeves. The 'stamp of approval', serves as the hotel’s thematic heart, and the lobby retail store’s curated collection of local products has received the staff’s “Philadelphia Stamp of Excellence.” A stay at the Notary Hotel creates a notable moment that authenticates the hotel’s commitment to meaningful exchange and serves as a constant reminder of the history that roams in the buildings' hallowed halls. The Notary Hotel is ideally located in the "Heart of Center City" across from City Hall, 1 block to the Pennsylvania Convention Center and within walking distance of the Financial & Historic Districts, Avenue of the Arts and renowned restaurants and shopping. Our goal is to offer a unique, signature experience to ensure your time in Philadelphia is notable in every way. We look forward to leaving a memorable mark on your stay.
