Charles Rennie Mackintoshs House

Museu
3 mi. de distância
The Hunterian houses one of the most important collections of the work of Scottish architect, designer and artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) and his wife, the artist Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh (1864-1933).‌ The Mackintosh House is a meticulous reassemblage of the principal interiors from the Mackintoshes’ Glasgow home. The couple lived at 78 Southpark Avenue (originally 6 Florentine Terrace) from 1906 to 1914. Substantial alterations were made in 1906 as Mackintosh remodelled the proportions and natural lighting of the Victorian end-of-terrace house. The principal interiors were decorated in his distinctive style, remarkable then, and now, for the disciplined austerity of the furnishings and decoration

Informações adicionais

Glasgow is one of the world’s most exciting, friendly and culturally vibrant cities. Voted the ‘World’s Friendliest City’ in a 2014 Rough Guide poll, friendly Glaswegians are the thing everyone comments on. Glasgow also has a phenomenally vibrant arts scene for a city of its size. Indeed, some say the city’s size – big enough to be a city, small enough to be a village – is what makes it so unique. Glasgow’s amazing architecture, fantastic venues and world-class museums and galleries are the canvas for many artistic collaborations – whether it’s Celtic Connections, Glasgow International, or a Play, a Pie and a Pint! Like Frank Lloyd Wright in Chicago, Glasgow’s most famous son – the Art Nouveau architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh – has lent his inimitable style to the city in breathtaking buildings like The Glasgow School of Art and Queen’s Cross Church. Mackintosh is also celebrated at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, House for an Art Lover and the Hunterian Art Gallery at the University of Glasgow. Not to be missed attractions on an incredibly long list. Nightlife is a mix of fabulous cafés, bars, restaurants and cultural offerings. The city is home to Scotland’s national opera, ballet and theatre companies and is a UNESCO City of Music. But don’t forget to shop! Glasgow offers the best shopping in the UK outside London’s west end.
