The millenary session of the Hungarian Parliament in 1896 passed a law whereby art collections previously held in different institutions were to be unified and placed in the newly-established Museum of Fine Arts. On the basis of a competitive tender, Albert Schickedanz and Fülöp Herzog were commissioned to design and construct the building, which opened in 1906. Today it is home to the Museum of Fine Arts that serves as a perfect off site venue for gala dinners as well.

The City Park is a public park close to the centre of Budapest, Hungary. It is a 0.9-by-0.6-mile (1,400 by 970 m) rectangle, with an area of 302 acres (1.2 km2), located in District XIV of Budapest. Its main entrance is at Heroes' Square (Hősök tere), one of Hungary's World Heritage sites. The area was formerly called Ökör-dűlő, meaning "Oxmeadow". The first mention of the name comes from 1241 in the archaic form, Ukurföld. In the 18th century the area was called Ochsenried in German. Around 1800 the official name was changed to Batthyány-erdő (Batthyány Forest) after its tenants, the Batthyány family. The first trees and planified walkways were established in 1751 and after the public park was created in the first decades of the 19th century the present-day name, Városliget was accepted and it became the first public park in the world. City Park was the main venue of the 1896 millennium celebrations of Hungary, by which time Andrássy Avenue, Millennium Underground and the Grand Boulevard were built.

Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, at night, romantic. In addition to the marvelous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are 10 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more. Szechenyi Spa Baths is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries: starting with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths, through the 16th century Turkish occupiers who built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest to the 19-20th century natural medical trends that promote aqua therapies and their deeply beneficial effects. The beautiful building of the spa baths is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in May 1909.

The building of the National Gallery – located in several wings of the Buda Castle – is a stunning piece of art, as are the views over the city and the river Danube from the Dome terrace. See the masters of Hungarian fine arts offering insights into the history of Hungary, every-day life and rural landscapes through beautiful paintings. There is also a collection of masterpieces of international art. Every information board on each display is written in English, and a free English guide is also frequently available offered by volunteers. The Gallery has a nice Gift Shop and a Cafe. The paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries are probably some of the most favoured items on display as they visualise the turbulent history of the Hungarian nation dramatically presenting the years of the Turkish occupation immediately followed by the Austrian occupation. Art lovers can easily spend here half a day, some wishing to return, but the exhibitions are intriguing to lay persons too through the wonderful arts. You can take pictures in the Gallery with a photo permit (the permit is very cheap).

Ponto de referência histórica

There used to be a significant Roman city on the site of today’s Óbuda with two open-air theatres, the ruins of the city can be found today in Budapest. It is believed that Marcus Aurelius wrote at least part of his book Meditations at Aquincum. Aquincum was originally settled by the Eravisci, a Celtic tribe. Aquincum served as a military base (castrum), having been part of the Roman border protection system called limes. Around AD 41-54, a 500-strong cavalry unit arrived, and a Roman legion of 6,000 men was stationed here by AD 89. The city gradually grew around the fortress, and after Pannonia was reorganised by the Romans in AD 106, Aquincum became the capital city of the Roman province of Pannonia Inferior. The city had around 30,000 to 40,000 inhabitants by the end of the 2nd century, and covered a significant part of the area today known as the Óbuda district within Budapest. Ruins from the old Roman settlement can be seen in other parts of Budapest as well, notably Contra-Aquincum.

The synagogue on the Dohany street of Pest is not only the most impressive one in the country, but it's the largest synagogue of Europe, the second largest one in the world. (The largest Jewish house of worship in the world is the Temple Emanu-El in New York). The tours in the Jewish district of Budapest all have their departure point at the Dohany synagogue. This recently restored, magnificent, twin-towered building celebrated 150 years of existence in 2009. Let it take your breath away with its beautiful interior, see why it is among the top ten sights of Budapest. The second largest synagogue of the world located in downtown Budapest had to be constructed on an asymmetric lot in order to place the Ark looking East. In a way it is hidden from our eyes if we arrive to the 7th district from Muzeum korut (where the National Museum is), however the talent of its designers is shown by the impressiveness of the building even if facing a small square and not the boulevard.

The Chairlift was built in 1970. The cable-railway connects Zugliget and János Hill in the 12th district of Budapest. The line of the Chairlift is 1040 m long; the level difference is 262 m between the 2 stations. The journey time is 15 minutes in both directions. At two cable-holder pillars the cable runs below the wheels and at all other pillars it runs over the wheels. After 60 years of opening the first Bleichert-ropeway an entrepreneur came along with the plan for the first wire-rope suspension railway construction in Hungary. The mountain-station is located on the roof of Hármaskút on the way of Normafa and János-hill. Buses No. 21 and 21A from Széll Kálmán tér run to Normafa, where from the Chairlift is a 20 -30 minutes’ pleasant walk in the forest. Alternatively you can arrive to Normafa by the Children Railway, its János-hegy or Virágvölgy stations are the closest to the upper station of the Chairlift.

It is the country's first botanical garden, founded by the Medical Faculty of the University of Sciences, just like throughout Europe. But it was cared for by expert hands, as its leaders were prominent personalities of Hungarian natural science.
