ICONSIAM

Compras
5 minutes de distância
The two retail complexes of ICONSIAM – ICONSIAM and ICONLUXE – are closely associated with cultural values and beliefs tied to the Chao Phraya River, including inspirations from ‘krathong’ and ‘baisri’. The ICONSIAM building is a highly modern building with its architectural design inspired by the way a krathong is folded, translating traditional Thai design signatures to modern abstract interpretations. The ICONLUXE complex resembles three glasses krathongs with the façade stretching to 300 metres along the river. A special glass is used to create vertical pleats all over the complex setting a new precedent. The design is inspired by a traditional Thai dress with a pleated shawl that wraps the most valuable part of the project as ICONLUXE represents the ultimate of ICONSIAM’s elegance.

Bangkok’s Chinatown, Thailand’s largest Chinese community, is commonly known among Thais as Yaowarat, according to the name of the road where it is located. The Chinese community dominated trades between Siam (ancient Thailand) and China since the reign of King Rama I, centered around Ratchawong Pier, while the construction of Yaowarat Road hadn’t begun until 1891 during the reign of King Rama V. Today, Yaowarat is widely known as the kingdom’s largest center of gold trade and a great foodie destination.

Open 24 hours, it’s busiest in the early morning when the delivery trucks arrive from the provinces. It’s not just flowers you’ll find here. Discover greater galangal, a type of ginger that gives the famous Thai soup tom kha gai its unique flavour. The expansive herb, spice and dried goods market is right next door! You’ll travel there and back via an authentic longtail boat.
