It furthermore shows our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.” Feedback from Green Globe auditor - Emilie Hagedoorn "Whether it is about being an inclusive and caring employer, a generous community member, respecting the historical architecture of the building or simply being creative with actions such as sourcing from local suppliers, reducing food waste, serving yummy vegan menus or saving water & energy Beurs van Berlage does all of this and more. The pandemic has helped making some good changes and there are some big plans for the future. All in all a great first audit for this unique venue in Amsterdam." "Our Super Store offers you all the chocolate you can handle. Taste all our crazy flavours, learn how serious we are about people. Make your own custom Tony's bar with our Unlimiteds machine, right there in the store! Amsterdam still is the biggest cocoaport in Europe, so we did not pick this magical place by accident. In early 1900's, cocoa was traded in the Beurs van Berlage. The Super Store is located right beneath the trading floor where that happened."

Oude Kerk Amsterdam

Ponto de referência histórica
5 minutes de distância
Around the year 1500, artist Jacob van Oostsaenen (1470-1533) was commissioned by the churchwardens to make new works for the Oude Kerk. His work is still here to admire, desecrated by the iconoclasm and worn by time. The tradition to order new work for the Oude Kerk from artists has never waned. Today, Van Oostsaenen has numerous colleagues in the Oude Kerk, from Joost van den Vondel and Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck to Marinus Boezem and Christian Boltanski – making the Oude Kerk the biggest commissioner of art in the Netherlands. We present contemporary art and connect our time to the centuries yet to come.

Canal Cruising

The history of Amsterdam is intimately connected with water. Its 165 canals were created over the centuries to stimulate trade and transport and reclaim land to expand the city. They continue define the city’s landscape and in 2010 Amsterdam's canal ring was recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. Take a canal boat tour in Amsterdam. Besides providing a stunning backdrop to the city’s historical centre, floating down Amsterdam’s canals is one of the most memorable ways to discover the city. Whether you’re a first-time or frequent visitor, everything in Amsterdam seems a bit more magical when viewed from a boat.

It is the venue for State Visits, the Queen’s New Year receptions and other official functions, including the annual presentation of the Erasmus Prize, the Silver Carnation, the Royal Awards for Painting and the Prince Claus Prize. When the Palace is not in use by the monarch (Royal House), it is open to the public under the auspices of the Amsterdam Royal Palace Foundation. The Royal Palace is open to the public most of the year and attracts about one hundred thousand visitors annually. It is open daily in summer, otherwise from Tuesday to Sunday. The annual summer exhibition focuses on the rich history of the building and highlights a heritage dating back to the Golden Age. In autumn, the works of up-and-coming young artists are shown in a special exhibition held in conjunction with the presentation of the Royal Awards for Painting.

Westerkerk Amsterdam

Ponto de referência histórica

Hendrick de Keyser (1565-1621) was the architect of Westerkerk. Commissioned by the Amsterdam City Council, the church was built between 1620 and 1631. Westerkerk was not the first Protestant church built in Amsterdam, but it was the first biggest in the world for sure. Noorderkerk and Zuiderkerk were built for the Protestant service ealier, whereas Nieuwe Kerk and Oude Kerk were meant for the Roman Catholic mass.Westerkerk was built in the Dutch Renaissance style and in the form of a patriarchal cross. The monument has a rectangular shape, is 48 metres long, 28 metres wide and 27.5 metres high to the wooden barrel vaulting in the nave. Eye-catching is the bright, undimmed sunlight pouring in from every angle via the 36 large windows (the light is not obstructed by any adjacent buildings). This 'light effect' is further enforced by the whitewashed inner walls. Apart from the large windows, the church is also characterised by grey-white painted ornaments made of natural stone between the white plasterings. Pillars, arcs, joists, pilasters and the main frame of the lower floor are made of Bentheim sandstone painted dark grey. Since the Westerkerk was commissioned by the Amsterdam City Council at the time, the city arms are a recurring theme in the church. Both the nave and the two high side aisle bays are covered with wooden barrel vaults, forming groined vaults at their crossbeams. The remaining low side aisle bays have stone cross-ribbed vaults.
