Additional Information
Amelia Island is located just off the coast of Florida, with 13-miles of beaches, abundant native wildlife, and pristine waters. This barrier island is known as the “Isle of Eight Flags,” and has an amazing history characterized by its diverse residence of Timucuan Indians, pirates, shrimpers, nobles and confederates. Early on, Fernandina Beach emerged as an important seaport, a legacy that today can be seen throughout its Victorian-era architecture and charming historic district, as well as at Ft. Clinch. Today, the island is home to Florida’s oldest continuously operating bar, the Palace Saloon, located within a sprawling 50-block area of homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. From shopping and dinning to kayaking, skydiving and horseback riding on the beach - you can't beat the varied activities available to visitors year round.
