Dating back to 1107, Traquair was originally a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland. Later a refuge for Catholic priests in times of terror the Stuarts of Traquair supported Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobite cause without counting the cost. Today, Traquair is a unique piece of living history welcoming visitors from all over the world, providing a magical and romantic setting for weddings, hosting a wide range of summer events and a superb venue for corporate groups.

Go Ape!

Built on the hillside within the beautiful Glentress Forest (part of Tweed Valley Forest Park), our Go Ape Peebleshire Tree Top Adventure makes good use of the valley for some jaw dropping exposure, and features our highest zip wire over the reservoirs in the valley. Take to the trees and speed down zip slides. They’re part of an exciting course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and crossings; all set high above the forest floor.

Glentress Forest - Mountain Biking

Recreation
2 minutes away
For 5 years the 7stanes at Glentress has lead the way in purpose built mountain biking trails. There really is no other venue like Glentress in Britain, and that’s the reason it is consistently voted the best dedicated centre in the UK. Glentress has it all, for all abilities, and the centre never rests. There is always some form of 7stanes trailbuilding going on at Glentress. Whether it is more natural singletrack from volunteer groups, or lengthening the blue graded runs through 7stanes funding. Glentress has a massive scene connected with it and feeds off this scene to grow bigger and better. Soon the forest itself will have to grow to cope with the sheer quantity of trails! Years of 7stanes trailbuilding experience and innovation have gone into Glentress along with all the facilities you would want pre and post-ride. Beginners and novices can hone their technique at the purpose-built skills loop. From here, there are 7stanes Green graded routes and a 7stanes Blue run which rivals the advanced routes for sheer fun. The 7stanes Red run is the most popular in Glentress and its Spookywood descent is one of the most famous in UK mountain biking. The black-graded ‘V’ trail is 30kms of award-winning singletrack which provides great views over the Tweed Valley and seemingly endless descents on ribbons of singletrack. There is also plenty to entertain the highly skilled in the ‘freeride’ jump area. Glentress can easily soak up two or three days of your time to experience the full range of trails. The site has a unique feel to it and really is a Biker’s Paradise. New developments at the base of the forest are looking to expand on facilities for all visitors, but already the site has its most important asset – atmosphere. That’s why over 350,000 visitors and growing, enjoy it annually.

Floors Castle

Recreation
40 minutes away
The Castle - History The site for the building of Floors Castle is a natural terrace overlooking the River Tweed and facing the Cheviot Hills, the heartland of the Roxburghe Family Estate. It lies on the opposite river bank to Roxburgh Castle, once the strongest fortress along the former border with England. In 1721, William Adam was commissioned by the 1st Duke to make additions to the eastern end of an existing tower-house to create a plain, but symmetrical, Georgian country house. The 6th Duke invited on the Scotland's leading architect, William Playfair, to remodel the castle between 1837 and 1847. He drew his inspiration for Floors from the highly ornamented picturesque style of Heriot's Hospital in Edinburgh. The result is a romantic fairytale castle with its roofscape of turrets, pinnacles and cupolas.
