Dyrham Park's name originates from the Saxon word for deer. An ancient deer park with a herd of almost 200 wild fallow deer it stays true to its roots. From May-October every year, we are joined by a herd of grazing cattle to help us manage the land. They eat the long grass so the deer can reach the tendershoots. For centuries, this ancient deer park has been grazed by animals - including sheep and cows - and in the interests of conservation, we are carrying on this tradition. As fun as it is to go exploring our park and garden on your own, for those who want to learn a bit more about the place, we offer a programme of free daily guided walks and tours. There are seven great attractions to discover, including the spectacular Gough’s Cave. Explore the hidden chambers and meet Cheddar Man who once lived here. Duck into secret caves, see the ancient elders' meeting chamber and gasp at the incredible vistas created by stalagmites and stalactites. You'll be astounded by the soaring chambers of St Paul's Cathedral and the towering spires of Solomon's Temple. Audio guides bring the cave to life (there's a special version for kids) telling the fascinating story of its Ice Age creation, Stone Age occupation and Victorian exploration.

Unleash your inner explorer and embark on a thrilling drive through the Longleat Safari experience. Make sure you park up in the African Village to get a closer look at some of the fury critters. Stand tall with giraffes, and walk with the wallabies and lemurs. Look out for the adorable pygmy goats, warthogs and stripy zebras too. For the rest of the safari you’ll need to stay safely in your car as you get up close to the world’s fastest mammal, the cheetah, and admire the lions and tigers. Alongside the big cats at Longleat Safari, you’ll also find some other deadly creatures – the grey wolves. Feed the deer from your car and watch as the cheeky macaque monkeys climb aboard, and no safari is complete without spotting Anne the Elephant! If you want to get even closer to the animals, you can go for a VIP tour in a 4x4 - an unforgettable off-roading experience. You’ll be taken aback by the impressive Longleat House, where you can step back through over 450 years of history. Did you know it’s one of the finest Elizabethan stately homes in the country? Descendants still live in parts of the house, but 15 spectacular rooms are open for public viewing. Take it all in at your own pace or join a guided tour through Longleat House’s Great Hall, library, dining room and saloon. As you explore, be sure to seek out and admire their fantastic collection of artworks, paintings, tapestries and furniture that have been collected over generations.
