Nestled in a tranquil valley and surrounded by the rolling green hills of Ixopo, Kwazulu-Natal, Kings Grant Country Retreat invites you to take a step back in time and enjoy a well-earned break from the daily rush of life. Tastefully decorated B & B accommodation plus two fully-equipped self-catering suites, weddings, conferences, museum plus a licensed restaurant where one can enjoy delicious country cuisine. For over one hundred years King’s Grant was run by the resident Mariannhill Monks as the St Isidor Mission and Millworks. Originally built by German Trappist Monks in 1891, the ancient red brick buildings have been restored and converted into an enchanting country guesthouse with Bed & Breakfast as well as self-catering accommodation. King’s Grant facilities include the St. Isidor Conference Centre, Museum and a quaint chapel, perfect for an intimate wedding or the renewing of one’s vows. The original dairy buildings and courtyard have been transformed into a beautiful Banqueting Hall and licensed restaurant where one can enjoy a magical evening of fine wine and dining surrounded by flower-filled gardens and romantic candlelight. The original living quarters of the monks and nuns have been stylishly restored and converted into ten comfortable individually decorated B & B guestrooms, plus two fully equipped self-catering suites, accommodating 22 - 24 guests. All guestrooms are equipped with the modern facilities as well. With the atmosphere of a tranquil country village, King’s Grant offers a unique setting that will capture the essence of your historic moment. The quaint chapel, with stately bell-tower and original stained glass windows, stands at the heart of the village and is ideal for small and intimate ceremonies of up to 70 people. For weddings of 140 - 150 people, ‘The Courtyard Dining-Room’, situated opposite the Banquet Hall or the rustic Brickfield Buildings offer one other, is another perfect venue for exchanging one’s vows. The antiquity of the buildings, the gardens, dams and verdant farmlands provide unforgettable photographic opportunities. King’s Grant offers warm country hospitality, a tranquil atmosphere and personal service enabling the bridal couple to relax and enjoy their special occasion.
