The museum is situated in close proximity to the Perdana Lake Gardens and it provides an overview of Malaysian history and culture. Its facade comprises elements of traditional Malay and modern features. It was opened on 31 August 1963,and it serves as a repository of Malaysia's rich cultural and historical heritage.The National Museum is a three-storey structure 109.7 metres (359 ft 11 in) long and 15.1 metres (49 ft 6 in) wide, which is 37.6 metres (123 ft 4 in) high at the central point. The museum houses four main galleries allotted to ethnology and natural history. The displays range from free-standing tableaux showing cultural events like weddings, festivals and costumes; to traditional weapons, musical instruments, arts and crafts, ceramics, and flora and fauna.

Perdana Botanical Gardens is Kuala Lumpur's first large-scale recreational park. Measuring 91.6 hectares located in the heart of the city.One of the largest urban parks in the city centre, it was originally established by the 19th century British state treasurer to Malaya, Alfred Venning, in the 1890s.The park served as place of refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city during colonial times. It contains large sculpted and manicured gardens and a host of attractions.
