For a few centuries they stayed and built extensive lead-lined baths which are open to visitors today. No visit to Bath is complete without tasting the Spa water. It bubbles up to a fountain in the Pump Room and a glassful of the famous healing water - served when still warm - will cost you very little. No.1 Royal Crescent is a magnificently restored Georgian town house that creates a wonderfully vital picture of life in Georgian Bath. Nowadays No.1 provides visitors to the Crescent with an opportunity to look beyond the famous Palladian façade and see what life was like for the wealthy in 18th Century Bath. Each room is an exquisite example of Georgian interior design with authentic furniture, paintings, textiles and carpets.

This prehistoric monument on Salisbury Plain dates from 3100 BC. It is considered to be the most important prehistoric structure in Europe. Although its purpose remains a mystery it is likely to have been a meeting place or a religious centre connected with astronomical observations. Today the stones have been surrounded by a protective fence. Visitors can look and listen to a recorded history of the stones but are no longer allowed to touch them.

Begun in 1499, Bath Abbey is the last of the great Medieval churches of England. The West Front is unique as it depicts the dream that inspired the Abbey's founder, Bishop Oliver King, to pull down the ruined Norman cathedral and raise the present building on its foundations.

Visit the heart of the World Heritage Site. Around Britain's only hot spring, the Romans built a magnificent temple and bathing complex that still flows with natural hot water. See the water's source and walk where Romans walked on the ancient stone pavements around the steaming pool. The extensive ruins and treasures from the spring are beautifully preserved and presented using the best of modern interpretation.
