Forteiland IJmuiden is located in the mouth of the North Sea Canal, and is part of the Stelling van Amsterdam. This Fort Island was built around 1885 as a major forward defense post of the gateway to Amsterdam. The beautiful, half underground fort is the largest of the Theorem and a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the Second World War the Fort Island was part of the Atlantic Wall, which explains the presence of the later built bunkers.
