Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Chiang Mai is home to approximately 300 wats (temples). One of the best-known is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, said to house a relic of the Buddha. Legend states that it is the Buddha’s shoulder bone, which was carried to the site by a white elephant. The temple dates to the 14th century and visitors can climb the 300 steps or take a tram to the temple.

Wat Chedi Luang

Wat Chedi Luang or Chedi Luang Temple is a prehistoric site constructed in 1401. The temple contains a large pagoda with a height of 86 meters, which was then destroyed during earthquake in 1545. The pagoda remains damaged until it was reconstructed during 1991 until 1992.
