Attractions locales

The Old Town

Loisirs
À 5 minutes
Warsaw's Old Town, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is a real pearl of the capital! It is only 5 minutes on foot from the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria Hotel and the road leads along the Royal Route, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful streets in the city. It is worth walking among the colorful tenement houses and feeling the atmosphere of the narrow streets. It is worth visiting the Royal Castle, where the Constitution of May 3 was adopted - the first in Europe and the second in the world. In the Castle you may visit the royal apartments and other rooms decorated with paintings by e.g. Rembrandt and Canaletto. The Sigismund's Column standing in front of the Castle is the oldest Polish secular monument, commemorating King Sigismund III Vasa, who moved the capital of Poland from Krakow to Warsaw. The Old Town Market Square, dating from XIV century was rebuilt after World War II. The Warsaw Mermaid standing in the middle of the square is a symbol of the city. We also recommend a walk along the Barbican - medieval defensive walls, the beautiful panorama of the right bank of the Vistula River from Gnojna Góra - at the end of Celna Street and visiting the Warsaw Cathedral Church.

Boulevards along the Vistula

Loisirs
À 20 minutes
Only a few years ago, Warsaw received its boulevards - a few-kilometer-long walking route on the left bank of the Vistula River, offering countless attractions. Clubs, bars, restaurants, gazebos with deckchairs, overlooking the river and its half-wild right bank. In the summer season, it is worth going on a cruise ship, historic galleon, ferry, motorboat or canoe. There are many other attractions in the close vicinity of the boulevards, such as the Copernicus Science Centre, the Museum of Modern Art and the Multimedia Fountain Park.

POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews

Musée
À 2 km
In today’s Warsaw you can find a lot of places that hark back to the tragic history: The Monument of the Ghetto Heroes next to POLIN Museum, the monument of Umschlagplatz, the place from where Jews were transported to the Treblinka death camp, and the sign of the ghetto wall along the pavements. POLIN Museum, the Jewish Theatre, Grzybowski Square, Próżna Street and the Nożyk Synagogue are the places most associated with Jewish culture today, but there are stories everywhere. In Żabiński Villa you can hear the incredible tale of the Warsaw Zoo director and his wife, and their heroic work in saving Jewish people life, immortalised in a recent film. Every autumn there is also a festival of Jewish culture – “Singer’s Warsaw” – which aims to spread awareness of the richness of Jewish culture and how things used to be.

The National Museum

Musée
À 15 minutes
Located just a 15-minute walk from the Sofitel, the National Museum houses a magnificent collection of paintings, sculptures and crafts from all periods, from antiquity to the present day. Masterpieces of Polish and world art are presented in thematic galleries. There is the largest Polish painting (4.26 x 9.87 m) "The Battle of Grunwald" by Jan Matejko, the coat and coronation insignia of King August III as well as the most outstanding works of Polish and European artists. Additionally: Europe's largest collection of Nubian art from the 8th to 14th centuries, 15th-century altars from various regions of Poland, Gothic sculptures or paintings for private prayer in the Medieval Art Gallery as well as furniture, textiles and household appliances, including models of once popular television and radio receivers - in the Gallery of Polish Design. The National Museum regularly organizes extremely interesting temporary exhibitions.

Warsaw Rising Museum

Musée
À 15 minutes
This interactive museum commemorates the largest armed action of the underground in German-occupied Europe during World War II - the 1944 uprising. The multimedia exhibition reflects the atmosphere of insurgent Warsaw, shows the military history of 63 days of fighting and the post-war communist terror. In the museum you may listen to the stories of the insurgents, see insurgent memorabilia, feel like soldiers moving through the sewers and see the capital city razed to the ground in the film "City of Ruins" from a bird's eye view. Inside, there is also a faithful replica of the Liberator B-24J, the plane from which airdrops were made to help the fighting Warsaw. On the Wall of Remembrance, in the Freedom Park adjacent to the Museum, nearly 11,000 names of soldiers who died in the Uprising were engraved.

The Grand Theater/National Opera

Théâtre
À 3 minutes
The Grand Theatre in Warsaw (Polish: Teatr Wielki w Warszawie), is a theatre complex and opera company located on historic Theatre Square in Warsaw, Poland. The theatre was inaugurated on February 24, 1833, with a production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville. After the building's bombing and near-complete destruction in World War II, the theatre was rebuilt, and the building reopened on November 19, 1965, after having been closed for over twenty years.

Copernicus Center of Science

Loisirs
À 3 km
This extraordinary place near the banks of the Vistula River, allows everyone conducting experiments on their own and having a great time doing it. Here, children and adults feel like explorers, finding out how their senses allow them to perceive the world. Such experimentation would help you to understand the possibilities of your own body, the phenomena related to waves, electricity, as well as innovations that will soon be in our homes. You can build a bridge or a flying vehicle yourself, see an autonomous car and safely electrify up to 20,000 volts.
