After an immensely successful first month in which thousands of visitors poured in to the Farmers Market at Imperial, organizers say they will make the every-Saturday showcase of fresh produce a year-round event. Originally scheduled as a Fall-only event, the Farmers Market at Imperial opened October 1 as crowds estimated at over 5,000 flocked to the venue for selections of fresh, locally grown produce, specialty foods and one-of-a-kind shopping finds. Located at Highway 90 and Ulrich Street in front of the Imperial Sugar silos and historic Char House, the Farmers Market at Imperial will be held rain-or-shine Saturdays from 9 am – 1 pm. Presented by the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, the event is certified as an official GO TEXAN Farmers Market by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Sugar Land Memorial Park

Parc
À 5 mi.
The City of Sugar Land is happy to announce that the first phase of Sugar Land Memorial Park, 150 acres, is open. The park hours are sunrise to sunset. The 420-acre park is located along the Brazos River between U.S. Highway 59 and University Boulevard with the park entry at the intersection of Commonwealth and University Boulevards. Included in the first phase are two and a half miles of 8-foot wide granite gravel walking/jogging/biking trails, a picnic pavilion, restroom building, parking areas, playground, open space for sports activities and a lake. Although the two windmills at the park are functional, the water level of the lake is dependant on rainfall. The lake is low due to the low rainfall amounts over the past year. Presently there are no fish in the lake. Until recently, the parkland had been used for agriculture. Because of the site’s history, the current vegetation is primarily grasses and brambles. In order to substantially increase the tree cover, the City has initiated a series of reforestation projects. On February 24, 2007 as part of the City’s Arbor Day celebration, the City worked with Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) along with hundreds of volunteers on the first reforestation project in the park. More than 5,000 trees were planted. The trees are a mix of oaks and other native trees. These trees will provide shade and wildlife habitat. On January 26th, 2008 was the second volunteer reforestation project of 10,000 trees donated by the Apache Foundation and KSLB.
