Sutter's Fort

Sutter's Fort was a19th-century agricultural and trade colony in the Mexican Alta California province.The site of the fort was established in 1839 and originally called New Helvetia (New Switzerland) by its builder John Sutter, though construction of the fort proper wouldn't begin until 1841. The fort was the first non-Indigenous community in the California Central Valley and is famous for its association with the California Gold Rush, and the formation of Sacramento. After gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill (also owned by John Sutter) in Coloma on January 24, 1848, the fort was abandoned. The adobe structure has been restored to its original condition and is now a designated a National Historic Landmark. Sutter's Fort as a venue offers an historic California setting for banquets and events. Capacity 300 seated, 500 standing both inside the fort and the surrounding grounds.

Sacramento’s convention center, now the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center, is getting an extreme makeover featuring a dynamic center for conventions, meetings, and cultural experiences. Construction on the expansion and renovation was able to continue throughout 2020 in order to meet the scheduled reopening of early 2021. While the pandemic continues, plans are being put in place to ensure the health and safety of staff and meeting attendees. The new facility features an expanded exhibit hall and new ballroom that will enhance the usability of the space and add more options for meeting planners. This entire transformation will offer more than 240,000 square feet of programmable space, which includes 160,000 square feet of exhibit space, a new 40,000-square-foot ballroom, 37 breakouts, 79,100 square feet of meeting space, and a 15,300-square-foot outdoor activities plaza. Reopening is scheduled for February 2021; the new ballroom will open in spring 2021.
