To celebrate the Emirate’s history, The National Museum houses an impressive collection of archaeological and ethnological artefacts for visitors to explore. Archaeological excavations reveal that advanced trading civilisations have existed in this region since 5000 BC. Over 1000 individual archaeological sites and antiquities are scattered around the Emirate, which is a testament to its ancient origins. Ras Al Khaimah’s location was a strategic link for trade with Mesopotamia between 5500 and 3800 BC. In addition, ancient records show that Ras Al Khaimah inhabitants travelled to India, China and Zanzibar during the 10th century.

Suwaidi Pearls

From the original fishing village in Al Rams, your tour will begin as your guide explains the importance of the shallow bay and its protective mangroves. Jais Sledder

The Jais Sledder sits comfortably on a low-slung track. You’ll reach up to 40 kilometres per hour as you hurtle down the Hajar mountain range swerving through glorious panoramas with views of the spectacular coastline. The speed seems amplified ten-fold because you are sitting so close to the ground. The fully-controllable ride takes about eight minutes to cover 1,840 exhilarating metres of hairpin curves and undulating waves.

Al Jazirah Al Hamra

Al Jazirah Al Hamra is the only remaining historical pearling village in the entire Gulf region; the rest were demolished with the discovery of oil. Al Jazirah Al Hamra translates from Arabic to mean Red Island. With the discovery of oil, its inhabitants left the Al Jazirah Al Hamra village between 1968 and 1971. The open-air museum is unmanned, so precaution is advised. Many of the buildings are in ruin or in a state of disrepair. Visitors are asked not to climb on or venture into the buildings; they may be unstable. It is prohibited to remove anything from the protected site and recommended that you only visit during daylight hours for safety reasons
