Nagoya Castle

In the early 17th Century construction of the castle was ordered by Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa soon after he had pacified the feuding warlords of Japan, uniting the country for the first time and leading the country into a new era. The castle was bombed extensively during WWII, but was rebuilt and now houses a museum telling its history. A beautiful sight, especially during the cherry blossom season, this is a must-see for any tourist in the region.

Japanese works include masterpieces of Japanese style by Taikan Yokoyama.

Tokugawa Art Museum

The museum also owns most of the illustrated 'Tale of Genji' which dates from the 12th Century.
