Starting at the colonial-era Clock Tower and stretching all the way to Hung Hom, a stroll along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade takes one past the Avenue of Stars, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Hong Kong Space Museum. But like most of the love birds and shutterbugs on the promenade, your gaze will be drawn south to the dramatic topographical and architectural spectacle that is the Hong Kong Island skyline towering over the busy waters of Victoria Harbour.

As one of the largest museums of contemporary visual culture in the world, M+ collects, exhibits and interprets extensive and invaluable collections of visual art, design and architecture, moving image and Hong Kong’s visual culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum is an architectural art-form in its own, in the shape of an upside-down letter ‘T’ formed of a massive podium and a slender tower. The podium offers 17,000 square metres of exhibition space across 33 galleries, three cinemas with 40-180 seats, a mediatheque, a learning hub and a roof garden overlooking Victoria Harbour. K11 MUSEA is the new cultural-retail destination on Victoria Dockside, Hong Kong. Inspired by ‘A Muse by the Sea’, K11 MUSEA is designed to enrich the new consumer’s daily life through the power of creativity, culture and innovation. K11 MUSEA opened its doors in August 2019 to usher in a new era of cultural retail which speaks to the growing consumer demand for naturally immersive experiences of art, culture, nature and commerce.

Located at the eastern edge of the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Xiqu Centre is Hong Kong’s new venue for Cantonese opera and other forms of Chinese traditional theatre (xiqu). The welcoming two-theatre venue offers something for all audiences, with world-class performances by some of the best troupes in the region presented in the Grand Theatre, and more intimate introductory experiences in the Tea House Theatre. There are also regular programmes of film screenings, workshops, talks and exhibitions, as well as guided tours. The venue has a selection of gift shops and restaurants, and a large open atrium where visitors can congregate and relax.

The West Kowloon Cultural District is a growing arts and cultural hub with performance and exhibition centres, green open spaces, and a waterfront promenade perfect for enjoying sunset views and evening strolls. It is currently home to four exciting new cultural venues, with more opening in the near future. Xiqu Centre The Xiqu Centre is Hong Kong’s new venue for Cantonese opera and other forms of Chinese traditional theatre (xiqu). Freespace Hong Kong’s new centre for contemporary performance in the heart of the West Kowloon Art Park Art Park On the west side of the district, the Art Park offers open green spaces where visitors can relax, play or picnic on the lawns, and a long waterfront promenade perfect for sunset views of the harbour. M+ Pavilion Located in the Art Park, the M+ Pavilion hosts regular small-scale exhibitions and arts activities, and is the main venue for M+ events until the completion of the M+ building in 2019. Other venues opening in the district from 2020 onwards include M+, Hong Kong’s museum for contemporary visual culture, the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Lyric Theatre Complex.

Standing 44-metres tall, the old Clock Tower was erected in 1915 as part of the Kowloon–Canton Railway terminus. The once-bustling station is long gone, but this red brick and granite tower, now preserved as a Declared Monument, survives as an elegant reminder of the Age of Steam. It has also been a memorable landmark for the millions of Chinese immigrants who passed through the terminus to begin new lives not just in Hong Kong, but in other parts of the world via the city’s harbour.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum is due to open in July 2022 after five years in the making. Over 900 works of art to be displayed are all gems of the Palace Museum collection. This unprecedented loan is amongst the largest and the best the Palace Museum has ever lent to a cultural institution. Many of these treasures will be exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time, while others have never been displayed to the public. The Museum will build international partnerships and help position Hong Kong as a hub for arts and cultural exchange between Mainland China and the rest of the world.

The Hong Kong Cultural Centre is a multipurpose performance facility in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Hong Kong. Located at Salisbury Road and adjacent to the Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier, it is a place for a wide variety of cultural performances.
