Quartier des affaires
À 2 km
Der Neue Zollhof is situated at the Eastern edge of the Rhine River harbor front in downtown Duesseldorf, near the administrative complex of the North Rhine Westphalia province. Currently occupied primarily by warehouses, this stretch of the waterfront is being redeveloped as an urban public zone, to comprise primarily art and media agencies. Due to its proximity to the residential district immediately to the South, and to the municipal and financial district further to the East, the rehabilitation of the harbor front is intended to provide an open public amenity for the City, while underscoring the emergence of Duesseldorf as a cultural and business center.

Aquazoo - Löbbecke-Museum

Musée
À 3 km
The Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum is a unique combination of a zoo, an aquarium and a natural history museum. The evolution of biological diversity is the main focus of the exhibition with 25 themed rooms: following the development of the first water borne organisms, their spread throughout the sea, their colonisation of freshwater habitats, to their settlement in varying terrestrial habitats. Special highlights include a magnificent spermwhale skeleton, a large shark aquarium and a living coral reef with a variety of invertebrates and fish, a tropical hall with crocodiles and lush vegetation, as well as many extraordinary insects, amphibians and reptiles. You can use all of your senses to explore the natural phenomena through experiments, microscopes and tactile installations. For children, there are stimulating signs and interactive exhibits to observe, explore and try out. Through the conservation, breeding and research projects, the collections and educational activities, the Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum aims to actively protect biological diversity.

Museum Kunstpalast

Musée
À 2 minutes
The Museum Kunstpalast, which was redesigned by Oswald Matthias Ungers and opened in 2001, is located in the center of Düsseldorf, right on the Rhine river. Ever since it reopened, the house has gained for itself an international reputation with its high-quality exhibitions, such as Miró, Dalí, Warhol, Caravaggio, "Bonjour Russia", "Diana and Actaeon" and Per Kirkeby. The permanent exhibit too, whose spectrum ranges from medieval sculptures to an outstanding assortment of Baroque graphic works up to paintings of the Düsseldorf School of Painting and Expressionism, as well as contemporary photography, is held in great esteem all over the world. The Hentrich Glass Collection is also found in the Museum Kunstpalast, and is the most comprehensive glass collection in Europe, tracing the development of glass artistry without interruption from luxury glass objects of the pre-Roman period up to glass art from contemporary studios. The Robert Schumann Hall, a multifunctional hall offering a sophisticated program running from chamber music to cabaret, is also integrated into the museum.

Tonhalle

TONHALLE - the music planetarium In 1926, a beautiful planetarium was built on the banks of the river Rhine in Düsseldorf. It was supposed to give people an insight into the 5,984,000,000 or so kilometres from the sun to the outer-most planets of our system. As is often the case in history though, things turned out very differently. In the 1970s, the city’s famous semi-sphere was turned into a concert hall where the public gathered to explore the unlimited breadths of culture and to be inspired by international stars of all genres — from classical music to jazz, and from chanson and soul to cabaret. In 2005, the conservative colour of the large concert hall gave way to a metal blue, giving the venue a modern feel. The dome-shaped and refined sound deflection make for magnificent acoustics. Optically, light diodes and a refined lighting concept today have turned the concert hall back into what it has always been: a “Music Planetarium”. Düsseldorf‘s starry sky means concerts here are a particularly special experience. Director Michael Becker is amazed at how the concert hall attracts audiences: “Now the corner acoustics have been brought into the round at the concert hall, we are all indulging in concerts under the stars.” More than 200 concerts with more than 220,000 spectators per year make the “Music Planetarium” a splendid cultural forum and a place to meet people. Over the years, two things in particular have remained unchanged: the large range and the frequent euphorically celebrated discoveries in Germany’s most beautiful concert venue.
