Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies

Musée
À 0 mi.
The Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies is an exhibition space and center for the study of art and culture located in Aspen, Colorado. The Bayer Center is operated by the Aspen Institute. The Bayer Center preserves the art and legacy of Herbert Bayer (1900–1985), an influential modern artist and designer who studied and taught at the Bauhaus before emigrating from Germany to the United States in 1938. After relocating to Colorado in 1946, Bayer helped lead the postwar revitalization of the city of Aspen, shaped the early artistic and programmatic vision of the Aspen Institute, and designed the historic Aspen Meadows campus between 1953 and 1973.

Aspen Music Festival

Adjacent to the Aspen Meadows property and set in the awe-inspiring Colorado Rockies, the Aspen Music Festival and School has carried on the vision of creativity and education that started with the 1949 Goethe Bicentennial Convocation. Elizabeth and Walter Paepcke of Chicago launched the two-week celebration in Aspen that brought figures such as Albert Schweitzer, Arthur Rubinstein, and many other noted individuals for lectures, symposia, and concerts. Uniting the intersecting worlds of ideas, art, and natural beauty, this event started something special: fostering the growth of the human spirit through the melding of art and nature. Today, over sixty years later, the AMFS continues pursuing that ideal with an eight-week summer festival of more than 320 events - including orchestral concerts, chamber music, opera, contemporary music, master classes, lectures, and kids' programs. Each day brings concerts to the 2,050-seat Benedict Music Tent (an acoustically superior and award-winning permanent structure that opened in 2000), the beautifully restored Victorian Wheeler Opera House, the exceptional Harris Concert Hall, as well as in churches and other halls around Aspen. Many events are free, and other tickets range up to $80. Lawn seating is always free.

Aspen Art Museum is an artist-founded institution dedicated to supporting artists in the development of bold ideas to shape our museum and the field of art today. We are both a platform and a place, highly attuned to the advancement of the vital ecosystem of art and the critical discourse surrounding it within the context and community of Aspen and beyond. As an exhibition-focused, non-collecting museum, we are positioned to make strong commitments to meaningful exchange, both responding to—and driving—cultural change.
