The Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum, Inc. was organized on April 20, 1974; two years after the City closed Fire Station #3 in downtown Fort Wayne. In 1975, they leased the building from the City and started collecting artifacts from Fort Wayne’s past. In 1979 painting and reconstruction began. The building was deeded from the City on April 8, 1987 and became the property of the Museum. The Museum finally opened on a limited basis in 1981. Additional renovations were done between 1998 and 2009 and again in 2019 to expand the exhibit area. In 2001, a staff was hired and regular hours were started, so the public could enjoy our past. Along with the many artifacts on display, the Museum also teaches fire safety to young and old alike.

The History Center is home to the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, its museum and collections. When formed in 1921, the society's assets were few, consisting of some historical relics that had been preserved by the Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Today it maintains a collection of more than 26,000 artifacts, photographs and documents representing the history of Fort Wayne and Allen County. The largest of these is the very building in which the society has resided since 1980--the 1893 City Hall building designed by Fort Wayne architects John F. Wing and Marshall S. Mahurin. The History Center also oversees the historic Barr Street Market (adjacent to the building), the oldest public space in Fort Wayne, dating back to 1837, and the 1827 home of Miami Chief Jean Baptiste de Richardville, located about 10 minutes south of downtown.

Built in 1905 as a wedding present for B. Paul Mossman and his bride, the Castle is of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Masons gathered granite boulders from fields hundreds of miles away to be used in the construction of this magnificent home which is on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1949 Mossman gave the home to the city to become the municipal art museum. In 1983, the museum moved downtown and the castle was restored for residential use. More than a thousand gallons of stripping solution, hundreds of dental tools and hours of time were involved in returning the original cherry, oak, maple, walnut and mahogany to its present state. Jody Hemphill Smith and Mark Paul Smith re-established the Castle as an art gallery in 1995. Since then it has featured artists from around the world. Castle Gallery shows are exciting events. This web site is designed to introduce you to the thrill of gallery viewing and to help you select fine art for your own space. Art enhances any home or business.

Art This Way is a volunteer run organization. We operate under the umbrella of the Fort Wayne Downtown Economic Improvement District. We are grateful that the FWDID chose to partner with local artists to develop this program! Art This Way works to raise funds and liaison between property owners and artists to bring large scale professional art installations into Fort Wayne. The current focus of the organization are the alleyways within a two block area of downtown, ‘double plus’ alleys that run between Washington, Wayne and Berry Streets and between Harrison and Calhoun Streets. Over fifteen property owners within a two block area of downtown Fort Wayne have signed agreements to participate in Art This Way. All of these projects are on private property, and we are grateful to the local business owners who have encouraged us and allowed our program to thrive.
