The Old Jail Museum

Do not pass Jim Thorpe, go directly to The Old Jail Museum! Hear the story of the condemned Molly Maguires and see the mysterious "handprint on the wall." Tour the jail and hanging site of seven accused coal miners known as the Molly Maguires in the 1870s. The Old Jail Museum contains reconstructed gallows and the mysterious, enduring handprint of a prisoner who proclaimed his innocence. Built in 1871, the facility was occupied as a jail until 1995. Guided tours are offered daily from noon to 4:30pm Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Closed Wednesdays. Weekends only in September and October.

Grey Towers National Historic Landmark

Milford's Grey Towers is the ancestral home of Gifford Pinchot. Pinchot was a Pennsylvania Governor, conservationist, and first Chief of the US Forest Service. The estate, built on nearly 100 acres, is one of the Forest Service's most significant cultural resources. In 1963, John F. Kennedy dedicated the Pinchot Institute for Conservation Studies as a historic landmark. The mansion and grounds are open to the public for tours and special events. The grounds are open daily for self-guided tours year-round. The mansion is open from Memorial Day Weekend through December each year. Guided tours detail the story of the Pinchot family and the role Grey Towers played in their conservation efforts.
