Experience the majestic southern Atlantic stingrays in only three feet of water as you brush up against these creatures. Stingray City is a group of sandbars located 25 miles off the shore of Grand Cayman, and offers tours ranging from 3 to 5 hours. The Cayman Turtle Centre is the perfect place for families to learn about our islands’ history, while having lots of fun at the same time. This award-winning wildlife park provides its guests with a chance to come face to face with some of the most remarkable and ancient animals on earth. Within the centre, there are a variety of interactive activities available – including, predator tanks and swimming or snorkelling in a saltwater lagoon filled with vibrant species of fish and green sea turtles. Another magnificent stop along the tour is the free-flight aviary, where guests can feed colourful birds as they soar around the room. Before you leave, take a stroll down the tranquil nature trail and admire the unique plant species and butterflies, or stop by Smiley’s Saltwater Lagoon and watch the nine-foot crocodile get fed. Guests can also learn more about the history of sea turtles and the centre’s on-going conservation efforts.

Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park

Among the island’s more tranquil destinations is the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, which includes three main attractions – the Visitor’s Centre, the Floral Garden, and the Heritage Garden. This park is also home to the endangered Grand Cayman Blue Iguana and a two-acre lake that serves as a habitat for native birds and other rare wildlife species. The Visitor’s Centre was constructed to model historical Caribbean architecture. It features beautifully crafted wooden shutters, wide verandas and a gorgeous courtyard.. Here, visitors will find parking, information, and a gift shop and a café. The Floral Garden is a magnificently multi-coloured mosaic, with hundreds of different species of tropical and sub-tropical plants spread over 2.5 acres. The entrance is a stunning view of pink roses, green Caladiums, Anderson Crepe Hibiscus, and other exotic plants. An ornate white wooden gazebo is the centrepiece that completes the picturesque environment. Guests can relax beneath the shade or enjoy the sound of a gently cascading waterfall as they stroll through the spectacularly well-maintained garden. At the Heritage Garden, the main attraction is the 20th century Rankin Home. This adorable wooden cottage once housed a family of eleven and is on display as a representation of traditional Caymanian culture. A restoration effort on the house was successful in recreating a porch, cook room with caboose (a homemade oven made out of wood), cistern, natural well, native coral stone fences and pathways lined with conch shells. The surrounding area is overflowing with a variety of blooming plants and fruit trees.

An authentic Caribbean great house from the early 18th century, Pedro St. James is the oldest building on Grand Cayman and has come to symbolise the birthplace of democracy in Cayman. The grounds also include an authentic outbuilding, original Caymanian cottages and multiple gardens. After years of extensive restoration, the Pedro St. James historic site has been unveiled as the Cayman Island’s first national landmark. The area spans an impressive 7.65 acres and holds historical significance as the birthplace of democracy in the Cayman Islands. The new Pedro St. James great house was created to be the central point of interest for tourists. Its three-level design with wide verandas was modelled specifically on the architecture of the original structure. Visitors to Pedro St. James are also invited inside the state-of-the-art multimedia centre to view a fascinating video that highlights over 200 years of the Cayman Islands’ history. A natural tropical park overflowing with native trees and plants also surrounds this gorgeous Caribbean attraction, making it a widely-sought after venue for weddings and other social events. There is also a recent addition to the beautiful property, the Outpost, which hosts rum tastings, a self-guided rum tour featuring some of Cayman Spirits original distilling equipment, light food offerings and, of course, some of Cayman Spirits’ signature refreshments. Overlooking Hog Sty Bay, it is one of Cayman’s few remaining 19th century structures. The Museum’s collection contains over 8,000 items including a 14-ft traditional handmade catboat, household and shipbuilding items, art and natural history specimens.
