Once populated by frogs croaking in the city moat, traffic began with the hacks in 1864. Followed by the horse drawn tramway (Rösslitram) and finally by electric tram and automobile. Today most part of the “Bahnhofstrasse” is a traffic free area. It's the most important location in Zurich for finance and business. And the main promenade where exclusiveness, quality and variety meet. The “Bahnhofstrasse” is a must see for every visitor. Whether it is for business or as a tourist. It's the most famous “Bahnhofstrasse” in Europe!

Three museums – the National Museum Zurich, the Castle of Prangins and the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz – as well as the collections centre in Affoltern am Albis – are united under the umbrella of the Swiss National Museum (SNM). The permanent exhibitions at the museums present Swiss cultural history from its beginnings to the present, and give an insight into Swiss identity and the rich tapestry of our country’s history and culture. Temporary exhibitions on current topics add to the experience. The SNM is also responsible for curating the Guild House ‘Zur Meisen’ Zurich and the Museo doganale Cantine di Gandria.

According to legend, Charlemagne discovered the graves of the city's martyrs Felix and Regula and had a church built as a choristers' cloister on the spot. Construction work on the present building began around 1100. In the first half of the 16th century, Grossmünster Church was the starting point of the Swiss-German Reformation led by Huldrych Zwingli and Heinrich Bullinger. The theological college then annexed to the cloister became the germinal cell of what is now the University of Zürich.
