Although founded in 1318 by D. Afonso Sanches and D. Teresa Martins, the building we know is an 18th century construction, since, since the mid-17th century, the building was on the verge of ruin and unfit for the nuns who lived there. However, given the serious problems that the country went through in the 18th century and the extinction of the monastic orders, the works were left incomplete. Between 1929/1932, the General Directorate of National Buildings and Monuments carried out intervention and completion works on the façades of this, which is one of the most emblematic monuments in Vila do Conde. After several uses and occupations during the 20th century, it reopens in 2024 as a 5-star hotel establishment, under the Revive Program.

The aqueduct, of Romanesque inspiration, is the second longest in the country. The Spanish version of National Geographic magazine considered it the third most beautiful aqueduct in the world . Designed in 1626 to supply water to the Monastery of Santa Clara, it was completed in 1714. Originally, it is said to have had 999 arches and covered an area of ​​about 7 km.

Bobbin lace, one of the city's most iconic features, has gained importance in Vila do Conde since the 16th century. On August 2, 2015, the municipality of Vila do Conde achieved a record for the Largest Bobbin Lace in the World, certified by Guinness World Records. The piece is on display at the Bobbin Lace Museum, which contains old lace and collections, and where you can watch lacemakers at work. A unique and unmissable experience.
