Cenotes are magnificent caverns and cave systems that are formed by the flow of underground rivers. They are truly a testament to the wonders of Earth's geology. You can find four different kinds of cenotes: open, semi-open, ancient, and cavern. There are many cenotes in the Riviera Maya where you can snorkel, dive and swim.
Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza
Historical landmark
2 hrs
Located 2 hours driving from the resort, Chichen Itza is one of the New 7 Wonders of the Modern World. This was the most important city of the Mayan civilization and shows impressive architectural prowess. "El Castillo," the main pyramid, was designed so that during each Vernal Equinox the dying sun would cast a shadow of a serpent (the Mayan God Kukulkan) writhing down the steps of the pyramid. This will be an all-day trip, so plan for around 9 hours in total. There are different options to explore this area from private guided excursions, private SUV, taxi and car rental. Airplane and helicopter tours are available from Playa del Carmen if you prefer a faster, more scenic mode of transportation.

El Camaleon PGA Golf Course
El Camaleon PGA Golf Course
Recreation

Golfing opportunities abound at the signature Greg Norman, 7,000-yard, 18-hole course, El Camaleón, which in 2006 became the first golf course to host an official PGA Tour event in Mexico. The championship golf course is the centerpiece of the Mayakoba resort enclave in which Rosewood Mayakoba resides. Located on the resort’s doorstep, El Camaleón meanders through the lush tropical landscape of the Riviera Maya coast, providing a scenic backdrop to guests’ golfing sessions. Preferential tee times can be arranged through the concierge and charged to each room. The resort also provides complimentary transportation to and from the course. El Camaleón is aptly named for its diverse layout and varied landscape, which bends through tropical jungles, dense mangroves and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bordered by massive limestone canals. Indigenous and environmentally inspired design aspects are evident from the opening fairway with its imposing Cenote (sinkhole), an ancient underground cavern. While each hole shines with its own particular magic, the Par 3s have earned the most plaudits. Hole 15 defines the El Camaleón experience. At only 160 yards from the back marker, the hole plays directly towards the sparkling coast. Regardless of one's score, the ocean view remains with the player long after the round. Hole 7 also plays to the edge of the Caribbean Sea, with the sand and spray punctuating the breeze. This is a dramatic, meandering course that makes full use of its proximity to both jungle and ocean, giving players a once-in-a-lifetime golfing experience.
