Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is a waterside building located on six hectares of waterfront land alongside Marina Bay near the mouth of the Singapore River, purpose-built to be the centre for performing arts for the island nation of Singapore. Merlion Park

Standing at 8.6 meters high and weighing 70 tonnes, the Merlion statue has a lion's head and a fish's body, and is housed in a 2500 square meter park. As the most famous image in the country, the Merlion is an imaginary creaturethat represents Singapore's humble origins as a fishing village. "Mer"refers to the sea and lion translates as "singa" in Sanskrit, while the fish tail symbolises the old city of Temasek. It was relocated 120 meters away from its original position in 2002 to where it stands in Merlion Park today, in front of The Fullerton Hotel and facing Marina Bay.
