For larger events, the new 350,000 square-foot Shreveport Convention Center is the single largest public facility in the city. Bossier City's arena, Brookshire Grocery Arena, is a 270,000-square-foot facility that accommodates up to 14,000 patrons for a variety of entertainment experiences. In addition to the major convention facilities, Shreveport-Bossier has a number of other facilities that offer meeting space. One of the most special aspects of a tour of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum is the rare dioramas depicting the lives of indigenous people and locals. It's been open since 1939 and visitors to this day are awe-inspired by the large frescos painted on the front of the building. The museum also houses a rare collection of Caddo Indian artifacts. The Caddo Indians occupied Shreveport prior to its founding by Captain Henry Miller Shreve. It is also north Louisiana's only Smithsonian-affiliated museum.
