Local Attractions

Squares of Savannah

Park
0 mi. away
Savannah hosts twenty-four squares. Savannah was America’s first planned city. Its squares with their human-centric focus have stood the test of time. The squares give priority to pedestrians and force automobiles to slow down with their many turns and one-way streets. The grid creates a repeated, uniform structure, yet each square melds beauty and utility through its own district mix of architecture, iconography, ironwork and fauna. Juliette Gordon Low’s Birthplace

Historical landmark

The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace is perhaps the only “house museum” in the nation created specifically for girls to enjoy—though it is loved by everyone! At this unique house museum, owned and operated by Girl Scouts of the USA, visitors can trace the arc of Juliette Gordon Low’s life and the Girl Scout Movement she founded. The house stands as a National Historic Landmark honoring the daughter, debutante, wife, adventurer, and artist who became the first Girl Scout—our beloved Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low.

The site was purchased for a private cemetery in 1846 and became a public cemetery in 1907. This charming site has been a world famous tourist destination for more than 150 years due to the old tree-lined roadways, the many notable persons interred, the unique cemetery sculpture and architecture, and the folklore associated with the site and the people. The entrance to the cemetery is located at 330 Bonaventure Road and is the largest of the municipal cemeteries containing over 100 acres.
