Kensington Palace

Historical landmark
2 minutes away
Just a short walk away from our hotel doors, Kensington Palace is a beautiful grand building surrounded by carefully landscaped gardens. The Palace is a fantastic place to learn about the stories behind some of Britain's most famous monarchs. The Royal Residence wasn't always as grand as it is today. Originally built as a modest mansion in 1605, it was purchased by the first Earl of Nottingham in 1619. However, when William and Mary started their joint reign in 1689, they wanted somewhere better than their current home at Whitehall Palace, which was too close to the River Thames. In 1689, they bought the Palace and asked Sir Christopher Wren to expand it. There are a number of exhibitions, displays and talks that take place throughout the year, helping you to get a better insight into the history of this incredible building. With Kensington Palace being so close to the hotel, you may even be able to see the fantastic building from your bedroom window.

Hosting more than 350 events every year, you can see everything from award ceremonies to rock concerts and, of course, the classical music it's so famous for. Even if you don't make it to an event, the building itself is well worth the trip. It was designed to replicate the incredible amphitheatres of Rome, which, alongside its lavish interior, makes it one of London's most well-loved buildings.
