It was the product of the efforts of Dr. Van Der Laan, owner of the largest aviary in Portugal, with the support of Bento de Sousa, Sousa Martins, and May Figueira. In 1905 it was transferred to its present location in Sete Rios, Lisbon. The mission of the Lisbon Zoo includes the conservation and breeding of endangered species, as well as scientific research, and educational and recreational activities. Designed by Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, the Jardim Amália Rodrigues is a garden in Lisbon, named in 2000 to honor the fado singer Amália Rodrigues. Inaugurated in 1996, it extends to the north of Parque Eduardo VII, in a central area and one of the highest in the city. Its relief and design give it a great diversity of environments. It has a large amphitheater facing the Avenida da Liberdade valley and a circular lake, next to which is located a bar with a terrace. At the highest point of the garden there is also a restaurant.
