The Michigan State Capitol, in its third and current iteration, stands as a symbol of Michigan’s rich history and democratic values. The present Capitol was completed in 1879, replacing two earlier structures that served as the seat of government. Designed by renowned architect Elijah E. Myers, it features a distinctive cast-iron dome and is celebrated for its classical beauty and intricate details. This building has witnessed the evolution of Michigan's political landscape for over a century, and ongoing restoration efforts ensure its preservation for future generations. The Capitol remains a testament to the state's commitment to preserving its architectural and historical heritage.

Groesbeck Golf Course

Recreation
3 mi. away
Groesbeck Golf Course, named after then-Governor Alex Groesbeck, has been a cherished part of Lansing since its opening in 1926. Governor Groesbeck himself hit the first ball during the grand opening, which featured a balloon ascension. The Lansing State Journal celebrated it as “Lansing’s newest public playground” with exceptional greens and scenic fairways. Managed by Lansing Parks and Recreation for many years, Groesbeck saw various improvements, including an enclosed, climate-controlled dining area in the clubhouse. The course underwent a major revamp in 1996 and remained largely unchanged until 2016, when holes 6 and 7 were reconstructed for a drainage project, adding new tees and a beautiful water feature. To enhance safety and visibility, a new entrance off E. Cesar Chavez (formerly Grand River Ave.) was installed in early 2018. On January 1, 2018, the Lansing Entertainment and Public Facilities Authority (LEPFA) took over management and operations from Lansing Parks and Recreation. This transition aimed to improve the course's usage and reduce the city subsidy. LEPFA plans to introduce innovative golf trends to attract players of all ages and skill levels to Lansing’s premier golf course.
