Dolmabahçe Palace was built during the reign of Ottoman sultan Alb¸lmecid (1839-1861). The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atat¸rk used DolmabahÁe as his presidential residence between 1927 and 1938 and passed away here. The palace was partially open to public and used for ceremonies between 1926 and 1984. It was fully opened to public as a "museum-palace" in 1984.
