Honolulu Zoo

2 blocks away
The Honolulu Zoo is the only zoo within a radius of 2,392 miles. It is also the only zoo in the United States that originated in a King’s grant of royal lands to the people. In 1876, King David Kalakaua, Monarch of Hawai‘i, made lands of the Leahi Crown Holdings available, “to the people of Hawai‘i.”

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

Recreation

Waikiki Aquarium

2 blocks away
The Waikīkī Aquarium has a long and venerable history. Open on March 19, 1904, it is the second-oldest public aquarium in the United States. Then known as the Honolulu Aquarium, it was established as a commercial venture by the Honolulu Rapid Transit and Land Company, who wished to “show the world the riches of Hawaii’s reefs.”

Nu'uanu Pali Lookout

9 mi. away
The distinctive look of the Ko`olau range stretching into the distance on both sides of the Pali lookout is the outer crater rim of the Ko`olau super volcano. The Nu`uanu Pali and Ko`olau Mountains gain their stark beauty from a great landslide where nearly one third of Oahu fell into the ocean.

The Battleship USS Arizona was bombed on December 7, 1941, about 15 minutes into the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, killing 1,177 sailors and Marines. Over 900 could not be recovered from the ship and remain onboard. Today, Arizona rests where she fell, submerged in about 40 feet of water just off the coast of Ford Island.
