The famed Water Fountain is today known affectionately as the Eiffel Tower of Geneva. The impressive 140 metres high fountain dominates Geneva harbor and is symbolic of the city's modern image. The Jet is Europe's tallest fountain and is illuminated at night, but it is by day that it is most spectacular forming deep rainbows in the sky whenever the sun shines. Here is the place where John Calvin preached between1536 and 1564 affording an historical significance that belies the church's diminutive size. Beneath Cathedral de St Pierre is one of Europe's largest underground archaeological sites with some good 14th-century mosaics. Free admission, charge for the tower.
