Local Attractions

Danish Architecture & untouched nature

Park
1 km away
Ørestad is built around water, nature, and a focus on sustainability. This part of town houses several of Denmark’s largest businesses and is well-known for its’ amazing architecture – including the VM Mountain and 8TALLET by Bjarne Ingels Group, as well as the concert hall DR Koncerthuset by Jean Nouvel. Western Amager is a uniquely untouched nature area, covering around 3,500 hectares, or roughly ten times the size of New York City’s Central Park. The area is open to the public and is home to both wildlife, grazing cattle and natural herbs and berries free for anyone to pick. The area is perfect for runners or renting a bicycle and going for a ride.

Stroeget

Shopping
7 km away
Strøget is Copenhagen's aorta and one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets with a wealth of shops, from budget-friendly chains to some of the world's most expensive brands. At some point during your stay in the city, you will without a doubt end of here. The 1,1-kilometre stretch covers the streets Frederiksberggade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet and Østergade and runs from City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv square. Strøget is most famous for shopping. Big international brands like Prada, Max Mara, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry are represented at the end of the street facing up to Kongens Nytorv. If your budget is a little tighter, you will find shops like H&M, Vero Moda and Zara closer to City Hall Square. Strøget is more than shopping, however. Look up and down the side streets during your shopping spree, and you will see several of Copenhagen's beautiful sights and attractions as well as street entertainers. The long pedestrian street, Strøget, is one of the few places where you should not be cycling in Copenhagen. It is a pedestrian zone and there are always many people, so here it is smarter to park or pull the bike.

The little Mermaid

Historical landmark
9 km away
The Little Mermaid is the most famous and popular tourist attraction in Denmark. The statue, situated on Copenhagen's waterfront, is a national landmark and synonymous with the city. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen is her father. He wrote the fairy tale of The Little Mermaid in 1837. Disney produced the film, and Copenhagen maintains a statue in her honour. The statue of The Little Mermaid continues to be the most popular tourist attraction in Denmark and one of the most photographed statues in the world. There are several copies of her, but the closest thing to the original sits at Langelinie in Copenhagen Harbour.

Nyhavn

Nightlife
7 km away
Especially during summer Nyhavn is the perfect place to end a long day. Have dinner at one of the cosy restaurants or do like the locals and buy a beer from a nearby store and rest your feet at the quayside. Nyhavn was originally a busy commercial port where ships from all over the world would dock. The area was packed with sailors, ladies of pleasure, pubs and alehouses as well as the former home of the Danish writer H.C. Andersen. Today the beautiful old houses have been renovated and classy restaurants dominate the old port. Nyhavn is filled with people enjoying the relaxed atmosphere by the canal, jazz music and great food.

Christiania

Recreation
6 km away
Christiania, the famous freetown of Copenhagen, is without a doubt one of Denmark’s most popular tourist attractions. This controversial area is loved by many, but has been a turning point for strong debate, especially because of the locals' relaxed view on hash and some unfortunate violent incidents. Creative housing Christiania was founded in 1971, when a group of people cut a hole in the fence to the military barracks in Bådmandsgade. Soon the area was known for Pusher Street, where you could buy hash and pot – but no hard drugs – from various stalls. Today many of the original settlers still live in the collectively controlled village, and the area has a clear 70s feel to it. Around 1,000 people live in Christiania and every year more than 500,000 people come to visit.
