Teatro Colon
Teatro Colon
Theater
The Colon Theater of Buenos Aires is one of the most important opera houses in the world. Its rich and prestigious history and the exceptional acoustic and architectural conditions of its building place it at the level of theaters such as the Scala in Milan, the Opera in Paris, the Vienna Opera, the Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan in New York. The Colon Theater operated from 1857 to 1888, the year in which it was closed for the construction of a new hall. This was inaugurated on May 25, 1908 with a feature of Aida. In its beginnings, the Colón hired foreign companies for its seasons; from 1925 he had his own stable bodies - Orchestra, Ballet and Choir - and his own production workshops, which allowed him, already in the 1930s, to organize their own seasons financed by the city budget. Since then, the Teatro Colón has been defined as a seasonal theater. Throughout its history several important singers stepped on its stage as, Enrico Caruso, Claudia Muzio, Maria Callas, Régine Crespin, Birgit Nilsson, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti. Also dancers like Vaslav Nijinski, Margot Fonteyn, Maia Plisetskaia, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Barishnikov, directors like Arturo Toscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Hector Panizza, Ferdinand Leitner, among dozens more. It is also frequent that, following the tradition inaugurated by Richard Strauss, Camille Saint-Saëns, Pietro Mascagni and Ottorino Respighi, the composers come to the Colón to direct or supervise the premieres of their own works. It is located just 10 minutes from our hotel.

Once a poor cargo port, the coastal area of Puerto Madero is now one of the most fashionable neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, full of luxury restaurants and dazzling discos. The largely pedestrian island houses some of the most impressive architecture buildings in the city. Luxury apartments and high-rise office towers dominate the area, surrounding a square facing the sea with style and backed by a large expanse of green areas preserved in a natural way. From the neighborhood, the highlight is the emblematic “Puente de la Mujer”, an artistic bridge that connects Puerto Madero to the continental center of the Plaza de Mayo. The futuristic design created by the Spanish sculpture of Santiago Calatrava, is said to symbolize an abstract dance of tango and project a striking silhouette on the city's skyline. Our hotel is located just six blocks from this modern neighborhood
Caminito
Caminito
Recreation
Caminito is one of the most emblematic promenades of the city and of the unmissable attractions for those who visit it. With its typical sheet metal tenements in the neighborhood of La Boca, which show its walls painted in different colors, it is also an open-air museum of almost 150 meters in length. For a long time it was part of the route of the railroad to Ensenada (one hour from Buenos Aires), until in 1928 the branch was closed and the road became an abandoned alley. It was thanks to the initiative of several neighbors, among whom was the painter Benito Quinquela Martín (one of the main benefactors of the neighborhood and whose work is commemorated through the colorful houses of La Boca), which in the 1950e he recovered the land to turn it into a pedestrian promenade and into a street museum, in which little by little works of different artists were added. In 1959, on the initiative of Quinquela Martín he was baptized with the name of the famous tango "Caminito", In the "Fair of Plastic Artists of Caminito" you will find contemporary artists of outstanding trajectory, who exhibit and sell their works inspired by the colors of their surroundings and the tango feel. It operates every day from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., in winter, and from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in summer. Our Hotel is located just 20 minutes from the famous “Calle Caminito”

Also in the area stands out the old cafes, antique shops and clothing stores. Other attractions of the San Telmo Fair are the various street shows such as the tango orchestras, the living statues, the musicians and dancers. Café Tortoni

The Tortoni Café, located at Avenida de Mayo 825, in the City of Buenos Aires. Its name almost without doubt comes from what was at the end of the nineteenth century the famous Café Tortoni in Paris. For almost a century the Buenos Aires-Argentinean Tortoni Café is the most representative of the traditional spirit of the avenue de Mayo, and is already a legend of the city of Buenos Aires. In this cafe ran the most important literary scene in Buenos Aires, led by the painter Benito Quinquela Martín. Nowadays it is still a place of cultural and tourist diffusion par excellence. Currently the owner of the coffee is the Touring Club Argentino. The "La Bodega" room, in the basement, is the setting for different tango and jazz artists. In this last category, it is worth noting the permanence of the Fénix Jazz Band, an Argentine traditional jazz ensemble that plays every Saturday, since 1978. There are also book presentations and poetry contests. The coffee retains the decoration of its early years and the exit by Rivadavia street. It also has a library and, in the background, pool tables and rooms for playing dominoes and dice. Our hotel is located just three blocks from this important attraction.
