Tempelhofer Feld is always worth a trip. While planes used to transport their passengers all over the world here, the former airport is now probably the largest recreation area in Berlin. On an area of about 300 hectares, you can romp, play or just relax in the sun and enjoy the incredible expanse. If you fancy a picnic, either bring a few sausages and grill them on the specially created barbecue area or borrow a basket full of delicacies from Picnic-Berlin. A special highlight is the tarmac, where skating, cycling or even kite surfing is allowed. But Tempelhofer Feld has also become a habitat for flora and fauna. From April to August, for example, a protected zone is set up between the northern and southern runways. If you look a little closer here, you can even spot one of the rare field larks from the edge of the field. This is the most convenient way to get there: 5 stops via Ringbahn Ostkreuz > Tempelhof

Nightlife

There are many techno clubs in the capital. But none is as famous and mythical as Berghain. Mostly techno and minimal techno are played here, but well-known house and electro DJs also play: in Germany's most notorious club. Berghain got its name in reference to the district name Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Every weekend, up to 3000 lovers of electronic sounds are drawn to the former cogeneration plant behind Ostbahnhof. The club is divided into two floors - upstairs is the Panorama Bar, downstairs is the actual Berghain with a dance floor for up to 1500 people. While the Panorama Bar offers deep house sounds, in the basement, the actual Berghain, you can expect hard techno sounds in dim lighting and the infamous darkroom. If you get in, you're in. Once the Berlin Wall. Today the longest open-air gallery in the world. At 1,316 meters, the Art Mile on the banks of the Spree in Friedrichshain is the longest continuous section of the Wall still standing. 118 artists from 21 countries begin painting the East Side Gallery immediately after the fall of the Wall. On September 28, 1990, the open-air gallery opens. A little more than a year later, it is listed as a historical monument. And there is also a lot to discover to the left and right of the art mile. Opposite the East Side Gallery, for example, is the Mercedes Benz Arena, a venue for sports and music events. On the Oberbaum Bridge, two neon hands play scissors, stone, paper. They stand for the two districts Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, which are connected by the bridge. Or you can start on the banks of the Spree for a relaxing steamboat ride through the capital. This is the most convenient way to get there: 1 step in front of your door!
